The Kabonero Mountainous Coffee Growers Co-operative Society Limited (KAMCOS) is a cooperative of coffee farmers working hard to grow and process delicious coffee, whilst using profits to invest in their community. The farming members of KAMCOS use environmental friendly farming practices that conserve and protect the environment, ensuring their coffee production is kind to the planet as well as the local people.
This specific lot is a blend of SL28 and SL14, varieties developed in Kenya in the 1930s renowned for their clean, berry-like acidity and complexity. During harvest coffee is hand picked and processed using the Natural method, known locally as Drugar. This involves sun-drying the coffee in its whole cherry which gives the cup profile increased body and a deep, fruity sweetness. The coffee is grown cultivated using a number of different sustainable agricultural methods, such as intercropping and mulching, which not only replenishes the soil but provides an ideal shade environment for the coffee to flourish.
Not only are KAMCOS focused on producing high quality coffee, but they are also determined to increase the quality of life for those living in the local community. Increasing access to clean drinking water, building schools, empowering women through local groups and generating a better income through quality premiums, KAMCOS are making coffee work for everyone in the Rwenzori region.Go back to shop
